Just wanted to share...

I came across this poem as I was reading another blog tonight...some of you may have heard it before, but I hadn't. It really moved me and touched my heart and feels oh so personal...and I wanted to share it with all of you. Sometimes, explaining adoption is really easy and sometimes it's not...and sometimes I worry about exactly what I will say to the girls as they grow. As many of you know, I write poetry from time to time. It speaks to me in an emotional way. This particular poem, in which the author is unknown, is so beautiful and it truly hits home for me.

Legacy of An Adopted Child

Once there were two women
Who never knew each other.
One you do not remember
The other you call Mother.

Two different lives
Shaped to make yours one.
One became your guiding star
The other became your sun.

The first gave you life
The second taught you to live it.
The first gave you a need for love
And the second was there to give it.

One gave you a nationality
The other gave you a name.
One gave you the seed of talent
The other gave you aim.

One gave you emotions
The other calmed your fears.
One saw your first sweet smile
The other dried your tears.

One gave you up
It was all that she could do.
The other prayed for a child
And she was led straight to you.

And now you ask me
Through your tears.
The age old question
Through the years:

Heredity or environment
Which are you the product of ?
Neither, my darling, neither
Just two different kinds of love.

Busy Day

Today was a busy day around the Sozio home. Ella had her first big doctor's appointment this afternoon. Because her appointment was at 3:30...we had to move our normal day's schedule up some so I could have all the kids ready to go when Ernie got home from work. Days like this rarely go as planned! LOL As usual, no one was ready when Ernie pulled in (late, might I add)....so we were late getting to the doc, but as luck would have it, the doc was running VERY behind so we were okay anyway....which was good cause after we got there and filled out all the important paperwork that they make you fill out, I realized that I completely forgot Ella's immunization book from GT at home and I had to go back home to get it! Sigh...we finally did see the doc though. Ella did great. She wieghs in at 16 pounds and is 25.5 inches long at 7 months old. She had two big shots today and got TONS of blood taken from her little arm so that they could run all of the necessary tests (routine for babies coming home from other countries). My poor little girl was miserable after all the needle pokes and by the time we left did not want anyone touching her but mommy. She was a trooper though and was smiling again as soon as walked out of the clinic doors! We then went to pick up the other three kiddos at Mimi's house (I had dropped Ernie and Ella off at the doc's earlier cause we were so late, then took the other three to my mom's, and then went back to the doc's). The kids were hungry and high on chocolate milk when I got there around 6:45pm (yes, the appt. took that long), so we scooped them all up and headed for the Wendy's drive-thru. Then we came home and ate and played a bit and baked some cookies with the boys (which I've been promising them we'd do everyday since Valentine's day) and finally rounded up the clan and herded them to bed! Whew...what a day! Tomorrow has to be much calmer and less hectic! Here are a few pics of our day...unfortunately, I didn't get Ella in her cute outfit she went to the doctor in, but oh well...the hours between the time I dressed her and the time we finally got home and she went to sleep (which was fairly quick once home) were crazy and I didn't think to pick up a camera! LOL Oh well.....I find myself saying "oh well" a lot more these days with four children ages four and under! It's a whole lot of work, but it's a hec of a lot of FUN, too! God is so teaching me the meaning of "go with the flow" and "roll with the punches"...great lessons on flexibility and patience. But more importantly, He is letting me experience and live in pure, blind, unconditional, incredible LOVE and letting me remember what it's like to be a kid again and just enjoy life and all the smallest things in it! Children are amazing and what a blessing my children are and what a lucky, lucky mama I am to have them! Like the words I have painted on my kitchen wall say....It's a WONDERFUL Life!

Ella playing this morning...she loves blowing raspberries as she's doing in this picture...

Looking serious...

Dawson and Daeton cheesin' it up for the camera and below goofing off and baking some YUMMY cookies...

Emmy playing with her dollhouse...can you believe how long her hair is at 14 months old??

Ella sweetly sleeping after a rough day....

I ended up accidentally waking Ella up with the flash from the camera. Tired little thing opened her eyes and went from a "what are you doing, crazy mama???" look to immediately smiling for the picture! LOL

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! Baby Ella has now been home one week and she turned 7 months old today. Life at the Sozio home is finally starting to resemble normalacy again! I've been meaning to post more here this last week, but I've been extremely tired and rather sick since coming home from my trip. We are finally starting to get everyone together on a schedule and Ella is starting to get used to the other kids and the boys LOVE Ella.....and Emmy is slowly warming up to Ella, too. Ella continues to do great eating and sleeping. She is taking a short morning nap now about 10:30 am and then goes down with Emmy at 1pm and sleeps until around 4pm (most days). The boys go down between 1:30 and 2pm and usually sleep until 4pm, too...so that time is nice for mommy to get some rest, too, or do whatever needs done around the house. Today was super fun and so exciting as it was Ella's first Valentine's Day and Emmy's first Valentine's Day at home. We don't usually do much for V Day, but we do a few special things to celebrate how much we love each other. Dawson had a Valentine's party at school this morning so we got up early to get ready for that and when I came downstairs Ernie had left roses for me and a homemade card on the table. My husband is so sweet....thank you, Nestie! I love you! Then, when Dawson got home from preschool, Ernie and I gave the all the kiddos their Valentine treats. Dawson and Daeton got Tinkertoys, a small box of chocolate, and a homemade card from mommy. Emmy and Ella both got a doll with their name on it and some Gerber puffs (which they both LOVE). I got more flowers this afternoon from my sweet brother-in-law, Nick. Thank you, Nick...they are so pretty! I made a special pizza for dinner for the kids in the shape of a heart and Dawson had picked out chocolate cake for dessert, so that's what we had. I made Chicken Piccata for Ernie and myself. Yummo!!! We were going to make heart cookies today, too, but we didn't get to it. Daeton slept late and Dawson got busy practicing cutting and pasting in his workbook...so heart cookies is on the list for tomorrow! Anyway, we had a super fun day and it is so neat to be able to celebrate Valentine's Day (or "Love Day" as Dawson calls it) as a complete family! There is so much love inside our home and it's wonderful to have a day just to sit back and celebrate that! Here are some pictures of my four babies today!
